The Benue state current governor wins governor seat with a back to back win over his top rival Emmanuel Jime.
- The first win was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and an extra supplementary election was fixed on 23rd of March.

His Excellency Samuel Ortom of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner of the 2019 Governorship election which was initially held on the 9 of March, but the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the results inclusive due to a heavy cancellation of illegal votes which sums up to One hundred and twenty one thousand, nineteen (121, 019).
The election was again held on the 23rd of March and the results were announced on Sunday Evening by the Returning officer Professor Maimako Sebastian. He polled a high Four hundred and thirty four thousand, four hundred and seventy five (434, 475) votes to defeat his closest rival Mr. Emmanuel Jime of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who in turn got Three hundred and forty five thousand, one hundred and fifty five (345, 155) votes with a comfortable margin of Eighty nine thousand, three hundred and eighteen (89, 318).

The former Federal Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and Benue state Governor Mr. Ioraer Ortom Adulogo Won earlier in the March 9 election with Four hundred and ten thousand, five hundred and seventy six (410, 576) votes and his All Progressive Congress (APC) rival polled Three hundred and twenty nine thousand, twenty two (329, 022) votes which leave him with a winning margin of Eighty one thousand, five hundred and fifty four (81, 554) but the results was declared Inclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to some alleged malpractice and heavy cancellations of over one hundred and twenty thousand votes.
This incident sparked reactions from the two top contestants Mr. Samuel Ortom and Emmanuel Jime, the later (Jime) blaming the Governor in power for using states security to manipulate the election in some part of the states.
The Governor however did not leave this accusation unanswered, as he releases hot questions, he stated “Jime should answer questions over the case of his personal driver who was allegedly arrested for having freshly minted notes running into millions of naira for vote buying in North Bank, Makurdi. He should also tender proof of his rigging claims against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He should be concerned about the public alarm raised over All Progressive Congress (APC) to thumb print ballot papers during the March 23 election, He should tell us what he knows about the plot by All Progressive Congress (APC) to use militia parading in army uniforms to intimidate voters during the supplementary election.
Lastly Jime should explain to Benue people his impact with the enemies of the state to cause political crisis when I am declared the winner of the election.
THE GOVERNOR’S VERDICT HAS SURELY COME TRUE.
Mr. Ortom earlier announced that he was not bothered with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Inconclusive results because he know he will surely win the state election.
He told Newsmen in Makurdi “I am comfortable because my party has the majority in the state. I am not contemplating of winning because I know I will surely win, APC cannot come overnight and get more votes than me.
My party won all the three senatorial seats, Six (6) out of Eleven (11) House of Reps seats, and Eighteen (18) out of thirty (30) House of Assembly seats though some house of assembly seats are declared inconclusive too”
He also says the state needs adequate security agencies to provide safety of lives during the already concluded supplementary election on 23 March.
The Final results means the on seat Governor Won back to back on both March 9 and 23 to claim the Governorship seat for a second term.
