Zinedine Zidane has refused to bow under pressure and resign from his post as Real Madrids manager, after Shaktar Donetsk did damage to the clubs chances of reaching Champions League round of 16 this season.
Madrid has 13 European trophies in its collection, but the Spanish giants are currently 3rd in their Champions League group, and all the teams in the group(including Real Madrid) still has a chance of qualifying if they win their final grouo stage match next week.
This means for Madrid to qualify for the next stage of the competition, they must defeat Borussia Monchengladbach, who is currently ontop of the group B hierarchy.
Speaking at an interview after Real Madrid’s 2-0 loss to Shaktar Donetsk, Zidane said “I am not going to resign, not at all, We are always going to have difficult moments, and we are on a bad run, but we need to keep going,”
“I have the strength needed to turn the situation around and I am going to give everything to do that. So are the players. We played well and we deserved more. We just need to lift our heads up and think about the next game.”
However, despite his determination to turn things around for his team, another defeat next week would be the end of Madrid’s Champions League race this season, and Zidane might be forced to leave his post as manager.
