Wizkid Biography
Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, was born on July 16, 1990, in Nigeria. From a young age, he had a strong passion for music. He started his music career at just 11 years old but was not known as Wizkid back then. Instead, he called himself Lil Prinz, a name he later changed in 2006 when he decided to take music more seriously.
At the beginning of his career, Wizkid was part of a music group called Glorious Five. This group was made up of him and his friends, and they recorded a few songs together. Even though they were not very popular, this was where Wizkid started developing his talent. His first song was called “Mami Water,” but it did not bring him much fame at the time.
In 2009, Wizkid got his big break when he was signed to Banky W’s record label, Empire Mates Entertainment (EME). This was the start of his journey to success. With the support of EME, he worked on his music and improved his skills. His first major single under the label became a hit and helped him gain recognition in the Nigerian music industry.
That song was so successful that it got him nominated for his first Headies Award in the “Next Rated” category. This award is given to new artists who show great potential, and Wizkid won it, proving that he was on his way to becoming a star. This was just the beginning, as he continued to grow and became one of the biggest musicians in Africa.
Wizkid First Album
His album tagged “Superstar” which had been released under EME in the year 2011 catapulted to the main stage in the industry. He became unstoppable. In 2011, he had a baby boy with his then-girlfriend Shola Ogudu. After his first son, Boluwatife, Wizkid had two sons, Ayodeji and Zion, with different women.
In 2014, Wizkid released his second album ‘Ayo,’ featuring top stars. Wizkid made it to Billboard’s Last 24 Hours chart in 2016 after his collaboration with Drake on the dope track, ‘One Dance.’
In 2017, he released another album titled “Sounds from the Other Side”. Wizkid’s hit single, ‘Soco’ became the most searched word on Google for the year, that was in 2018.
In 2019, Wizkid was featured in Beyonce’s ‘Lion King‘ album. He also featured in ‘Brown Skin Girl,’ alongside Beyonce’s first child, Blue Ivy, Beyonce, and Saint Jhn for which he won the Ashford and Sampson Songwriters’ Award during the 2019 Soul Train Awards.
