Salma al-Shehab, a mother of two from Saudi, has been sentenced to 34 years in prison for causing public unrest on twitter.
Salma had come from the UK to Saudi Arabia on holiday with the intention of taking her two children and husband back with her.

Unfortunately, she was apprehended by Saudi authorities who questioned, arrested and tried for her tweets.
It was reported that Salma had used Twitter to advocate the right of women and also to protest against the detainment of a fellow female activist who was tortured in prison.

According to Saudi authorities, the mother of two was using social media “cause public unrest and destabilise civil and national security.”
Earlier, she had been sentenced to six years in prison, but after more charges were added, her jail time hit 34 years.
Salma argued that her social media really didn’t pose any threat but the authorities tagged it ‘inappropriate’.
