Manchester United has defeated their old rivals Arsenal 3-2, in a 95 minutes clash that was filled with bizarre moments and decisions.
Arsenal’s first goal gave the match a shocking aura, as De Gea was already on the ground when Smith Rowe struck the ball, but the goal was awarded due to a late reaction from the match referee.
Unfortunately for the gunners, United refused to trail into the half time on their own grounds, and Bruno Fernandes, leveled the game with a 44th minute equalizer assisted by Fred.
Cristiano Ronaldo then added to the goal tally and further pushed his career goals beyond 800, when he scored in the 52nd minute.
However, a determined Arsenal refused to give up, and Odegaard was on point 2 minutes after Ronaldo’s goal and he brought the game level again with a goal in the 54th minute.
In the end it was another major VAR decision that decided the match outcome, as the referee awarded Manchester United a penalty, after reviewing Odegaard’s slide tackle on Fred.
Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to the ball, and had to take some deep, shaky breaths to calm his nerves, before placing it high in the middle of the post, where a diving Ramsdale couldn’t reach.
Manchester United’s interim boss Rangnick, who was present at the Old Trafford for the match, barely showed any reactions for most of the match as he took notes, but he did stand to applaud Ronaldo’s winner.
The victory fires United up to 7th place, where they are 3 points behind 4th place Arsenal.
