“This is absolutely nonsense – I’ve never spoken with players about captaincy. Harry is our captain and will stay our captain.”
These were the words of United boss Ralf Rangnick during an interview, after reports suggested a captaincy related rift in the team.
Earlier in the week, a story in ‘The Mirror’ suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo and long time Captain Harry Maguire, were currently having a power struggle.”
However, Rangnick says he isn’t bothered because the report “is not true”.
No Maguire vs Ronaldo Rift Says Rangnick.
“I have heard about what was written, yes, there were players that were unhappy at the end of the [transfer] window. This has improved and the atmosphere in the locker room is better than it was a few weeks ago.
“It’s about performing well and showing togetherness on the pitch. That’s what we can influence.”
“As far as I know it’s the first game [for Manchester United] in a full stadium at Elland Road since they were last in the Premier League. We are looking forward to it.”
Lets Take It Back A Bit.
United fans would recall that Maguire became captain 2 years ago during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign as manager.
However, there might be trouble in Maguire’s captaindom, as the return of United’s starboy Cristiano Ronaldo seems to be creating some friction.
So far, the English defender has denied the reports claims saying the Maguire vs Ronaldo reports are not true and that he and his team-mates are “united and focused” on Sunday’s game at Leeds United.
