League 2 club Cheltenham Town, almost treated football fans to a shocking display today, as they nearly defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup Today.
Cheltenham Town is currently 72 places beneath Manchester City who is currently second in the Premier League, however, this vast difference in rank didn’t seem to deter the club from almost embarrassing Manchester City, as they drew first blood when Alfie May’s 59th minute goal placed them in the driver’s seat of the match.
However, Manchester City was able to avert their impending doom when Phil Foden, positioned himself at the far end of the post, and sent in Joao Cancelo’s long cross in the 81st minute.
However, City wasn’t fully in charge until Gabriel Jesus sent in the ball after receiving an assist from Fernandinho. Ferran Torres then scored Manchester City’s third and final goal, which wrapped up the match and effectively quenched the fire of Cheltenham’s bravery.
However, despite having to return to the battle for promotion from League Two, Cheltenham’s manager Micheal Duff seems pleased with his team’s performance.
In a post match Interview, Micheal said “I’m incredibly proud, the players they brought on from the bench and the way they celebrated the goals tells you something. They know they’ve been in a game. They’ve done that to better teams than us.”
On the other hand, Manchester City now go on to face Swansea in the 5th round of the FA Cup.
