24 year old Haider Malik had been searching for a job since the beginning of the pandemic period in 2020 without any luck. He had to go through many interviews but all of them turned out to be in vain.
The young graduate wasn’t given a chance to prove his capabilities and so he has been left jobless. Malik, who got his first class degree in banking and finance from Middlesex University London, decided to use an unconventional way to find a job.
Instead of staying in his house and applying through zoom meetings, Malik stepped out of home and into the streets of London with a pop-up stand with copies of his CV which he handed out to passersby in Canary Wharf station.
During the first few minutes he felt nervous and a bit awkward because he didn’t know what he was doing. He was standing there empty-handed trying to look at people and hoping to meet them.
After a few more minutes, he got more comfortable and was able to start conversations with people and then gave out copies of his CV and even added QR codes so they could download the information as well.
He got good responses from the people and a lot of them collected his CV and phone number. A particular stranger on his way to work took a picture of Malik and uploaded it on LinkedIn and within three hours the 24 year old first class graduate got a message from a director asking him to come for an interview.
Malik immediately packed up and headed there. When he got home that day, he realized that the picture posted by the stranger that day had gone viral and he receiving many messages and calls from people who wanted to help.
Three days later he had another interview and that was the day he got his dream banking job.
Malik decided to share his story on his LinkedIn account and also thanked the stranger for his help. He also mentioned that he would love to buy him lunch.
