David Adedeji Adeleke, better known as Davido, was born on November 21, 1992, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Even though he was born in America, his family is from Nigeria. Growing up, Davido had a strong love for music, and he wanted to make a name for himself in the music industry.
His music career started when he was a student at Oakwood University in the United States. While studying there, he became very interested in making beats and producing songs. However, he soon realized that his true passion was in singing and performing. Because of this, he decided to leave school and focus fully on music.
To chase his dream, Davido moved to Lagos, Nigeria, where he believed he had a better chance of becoming a successful musician. In 2011, he released his first song, “Back When,” which introduced him to the Nigerian music scene. The song was well received, but it was his second single, “Dami Duro,” that made him a superstar.
“Dami Duro” became a massive hit across Nigeria and beyond. The song was played on radios, in clubs, and at parties, making Davido one of the most talked-about new artists. His unique style, energetic beats, and catchy lyrics won the hearts of many fans. From that moment, he continued to rise and became one of the biggest artists in Africa.
The music sensation then released his debut album, Omo Baba Olowo, in 2012.
Between 2013 and 2015, he released “Gobe“, “One of a Kind”, “Skelewu”, “Aye”, “Tchelete (Goodlife)”, “Naughty”, “Owo Ni Koko”, “The Sound” and “The Money”.
In July 2016, Davido signed a record deal with Sony’s RCA Records. In October 2016, he released his 5-track EP Son of Mercy. In 2017, his hit single “Fall” broke the record as the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history.
David then won an award in BET for the “best international” act in Nigeria and he went home with the award “Artist of the Year” at the AFRIMA award 2018. That same year he released his hit single “Assurance” which was dedicated to his beautiful fiance Chioma Rowland.
On 2019, October 20 David welcomed a son with Chioma but the child passed away in 2022.
