South London football club Chelsea has bought their ticket to the Uefa Champions League final, as they secured a flawless 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in their semi-final second leg clash today.
Following a 1-1 stalemate with Madrid in the first leg of the fixture which was played in Spain, Chelsea took the lead as Timo Werner headed in a goal in the 28th minute of the second leg, bringing the aggregate goal count to 2-1 in favor of the blues.
From that point Chelsea dominated most of the game and finally sealed their victory over their Spanish opposition in the second half when Mason Mount a late, close ranged goal which brought the final scoreline to 3-1 on aggregate in favor of Chelsea.
While they weren’t as impressive on the pitch as their English opposition, Real Madrid did put up some fight and came close to scoring twice, but both attempts failed as Karim Benzema low strike was off target, and his headed attempt later on was thwarted by Chelsea’s shot stopper Edouard Mendy.
Chelsea’s qualification means this edition of the Champions League would have an all English final fixture, as Chelsea now faces off against Manchester City on May 29, 2021.
This is an impressive feat for the blues, who have had a successful turn around since Thomas Tuchel was appointed as manager in January after Frank Lampard’s dismissal. In less than 5 months, Tuchel has led Chelsea to two finals as they are also scheduled to face Leicester City for the FA Cup final fixture on May 15.
