Ralf Rangnick is overjoyed with his new team, as Manchester United performed “better than expected” to give Rangnick a debut win over Crystal Palace.
United’s fine display seemed to be going to waste as a stubborn Crystal Palace refused to yield for 77 minutes.
However, their hard work finally paid off when Fred(an unlikely hero), struck the back of the net with a beautiful curled strike from 20 yards out.
While it was only Fred’s second goal of the season, it ensured that United recorded their first consecutive league win since mid-September.
According to Rangnick, he is “very happy with the way the team performed, especially the first half hour, with the pressing, it was exceptional.
“The way we defended, we had control of the whole game.
“The clean sheet was the most important part. These are the things we must improve. We need to keep clean sheets. With just the one training session, I was really impressed.”
Speaking further he said “We always tried to be on the front foot. We were never not apart from maybe the last five minutes. At all other times we were trying to keep them away from our goal.”
This victory means Ralf Rangnick has now joined the league of United’s managers who -since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013- won their first match at the helm of the clubs affairs, with Louis van Gaal the only man to fail.
