Arsenal have lost their appeal Against David Luiz’s ban, which he received for clipping Wolve’s Willian Jose’s heel during Tuesday’s Premier League match.
In a statement released by Arsenal after they lost the appeal, the club said it was “disappointed” outcome.
The match official Craig Pawson, made the decision to send off David Luiz, and after a video assistant referee (VAR) review, the decision remained unchanged.
The Gunners would now be facing Aston Villa on Saturday without Luiz, which would be a disappointing sight for Arteta, who said he was “very hopeful” of getting the ban overturned.
According to Arteta in an interview “I’m very hopeful. That’s why we put the appeal in. We went through all the images and we think the red card should be overruled. That’s why we appealed,” said Arteta.
“We know the law, for me it’s more about the decision and what happens in that instance.
“He was on the side of the player that completely changed the angle, the purpose and the player’s ability to finish the action, but it’s still a similar action. I think they will look at it.”
